Human Rights Campaign

Human Rights in China

"It is so obvious, in the run up to the Beijing Olympics 2008 we should be working more together, uniting our voices, all supporters and all peoples facing persecution under the Chinese Government" - Iona Liddell, SFT UK

SFT UK's Human Rights Campaign

In August 2008 the world will be watching China. The Beijing Olympics 2008 promises to be an incredible spectacle and Tibetans want to be there with Team Tibet. China will be under greater pressure than ever before to respect the basic human rights of freedom of expression and freedom of religion for all it's 1.3 billion people.

China has promised reform and promised improvements. We can make sure these changes come about and make sure Human Rights are not whitewashed with spin, propaganda and tokenism but that the Olympics really is a force for good.

What you can do

Support Team Tibet logo

Hold a Team Tibet event in you local area

An athletics warm-up or ‘Forbidden Team’ film showing is a great way to get lots of people and the local press involved. Remember to provide an action for everyone who comes to events that you organise. People could sign up to support Team Tibet or write a letter to the local paper. Other groups like Amnesty or local human rights campaigns may want to be involved. Read the Olympics Campaign page for information and event ideas.

"Unless the Chinese authorities take urgent measures to stop human rights violations over the coming year, they risk tarnishing the image of China and the legacy of the Beijing Olympics." - Amnesty International Secretary General, Irene Khan.
