Stand for Election 2009

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the SFT UK board.

As I’m sure you know, SFT UK is a network of Tibet activists from University groups and supporters across the UK . The network is maintained and promoted by the SFT UK board of ten people. Our aim is to provide the knowledge, skills and support for young people in the UK to campaign effectively for Tibet.

The board represents the SFT UK network. To do this the Board must consist of democratically elected activists (that could be you). SFT UK ’s third elections are to be held in July this year and any member (or recent ex-member) of a local/university Tibet support group or experienced Tibet activist may stand for election. You don't have to be a student, or even an ex-student to stand, you just need to demonstrate commitment to the Tibetan struggle through past involvement.

How the Board works...

Much of the Board work is done over email, so wherever you live in the UK you can be involved. There are two board meetings a year and you must join one of our three working groups: campaigns, grassroots and fundraising. You’ll be supported by the older board members and experience how an NGO in Britain works. It’s great for CV experience, you’ll be part of a unique network and meet amazing people, it is hard work but ultimately rewarding.

The board are all volunteers, we've had no specialist training and were all inexperienced to start with so if you’ve had some campaigning experience in the past don't think you're not up to the job!

How the Election will work...

There are 3 seats up for election and all terms are for two years. To stand for election and become part of the board you must complete the application form and return it to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by midnight 30th June 2009. Voting will take place at the start of July and if you are successful you will join the board at our summer board meeting on 1st & 2nd August 2009.

Becoming a board member involves some responsibilities like a commitment to attend meetings and fundraise a certain amount of money. These commitments and other information about the board is detailed in ‘UK Board R&R 2008.pdf’. If these seem daunting don’t worry, the other board members are there to support you and we retain a healthy spirit of not sticking too closely to the rules!

Remember to stand for election to the SFT UK board return your form to me by midnight 30th June 2009. I’ll be very happy to answer any questions you have.
